Scary Night
As soon as I read this I wanted to illustrate it. It’s rare to have characters move through a book from beginning to end as naturally as this. If you want a comparative book I’d suggest “We’re Going on a Bear Hunt” by Michael Rosen.
I couldn’t help myself and threw in a homage to Dr Seuss near the end as Cat, Hare and Pig run over a hill and through a tunnel.
I’ve worked on five books now with Lesley Gibbes. Scary night was her debut into publishing and it’s a beauty.
If you like reading aloud to children, this is the book for you. Your audience can tip toe, scream and hide their way through the telling of the story for a rollicking good time.
